International Bowling Industry Magazine

The owner of Thunderbird Lanes in Warminster, PA, Brumberg is many things: innovator, author, wife, mother, grandmother, leader, cosmetics expert and, for the last two and a half years, an expectation-flouting executive in an industry largely controlled by men. The Fairy Godmother of Bowling is Brumberg’s alter ego when she packs up her portable dinosaur stand and plastic pins and comes into Philadelphia area hospitals permitting children who can’t come to Thunderbird Lanes to experience the fun of the sport.

Elaine Brumberg was a model in her 30s and then a makeup artist. She worked as a beauty consultant and wrote a national best-selling book, “Save Your Money, Save Your Face.” Yet, it is her inner beauty that is filling the hearts and minds of kids. Elaine hosts events for kids with special needs at her bowling alley, Thunderbird Lanes. During the pandemic she is bringing her traveling dinosaur bowling alley to kids at the children’s hospital. She dresses up as a fairy godmother and brings party favors for the kids.

“Someday I am going to hold my head high and proudly say I am a Jewish woman.”
That’s what 80-year-old Elaine Brumberg, now known as the “Fairy Godmother of Bowling,” said to herself as a child.

Brumberg went to school near Pittsburgh, the only Jew in a class of 350 students. She was bullied and socially ostracized.

When the pandemic first began to gain steam in the US just a few months ago, nobody could have imagined what life would look like now or how this precarious disease would affect us directly. For 80-year-old Elaine Brumberg, the virus affected every aspect of her life from her health to her business, but being dubbed the “Fairy Godmother of Bowling,” the PA native has a few tricks up her sleeve to persevere.
